Comparing takes
Two takes, heard against each other. There are two ways to do it, and they are for different situations.
The Compare screen
Section titled “The Compare screen”At Compare in the top navigation. This one is app level rather than project level, because the two takes can come from different projects.
Pick a take on each side and both load straight away. Press F to flip between them. Playback keeps its position across the flip, so you hear the same moment in each.
Both sides are loaded as soon as they are picked. Picking the second take is the asking, so there is nothing to arm.
The page stops the main player on the way in. Three audible takes is nobody’s intention.
The player’s compare switch
Section titled “The player’s compare switch”The dock at the bottom of a project has its own compare. There, the second take is fixed: it is the take the current one was made from, inside the open project.
This is the one you want when you have just repainted or covered something and want to hear what changed. It is armed rather than automatic, because a second stream is a cost nobody asked for when they pressed play.
Which to use
Section titled “Which to use”| Situation | Use |
|---|---|
| Did this repaint improve it? | The player’s compare switch |
| Which of these two seeds is better? | The Compare screen |
| Does this cover beat the one from last week, in a different project? | The Compare screen |
Keyboard
Section titled “Keyboard”F flips between takes on the Compare screen. Space plays and pauses. The full list is in Keyboard shortcuts.
